Our Bird blog.

 I have always had an interest in Birds, i have to admit that as a lad i colleced Bird eggs, although in my defence i only ever took one egg from any nest.I think i ended up with 47 different ones.
Confession over, we now have several bird tables at the caravan although my neighbors 3 damn Cats prevent us from having a table at home. All the pictures taken here were taken with a little Fuji point and shoot Camera with only a 4X zoom so quality isn't brilliant.
Please click pictures to enlarge them.
Above picture...A Blue Tit at feeder.
Below....A Coal Tit.

 Below...A Hen Chaffinch and i think a Coal Tit.
 Below....A Cock Chaffinch.
Below.... We had a pair of Greenfinches (picture + Tit) visit right through the spring of 2009 but no sign of them last year.
 Below........The Nuthatch, we have around three pairs of these beautiful birds that visit our Table/feeders, they usually hang there for 5-6 minutes hogging the feeder until they are stuffed full.
Below.......the very beautiful little Robin, we had a pair nesting close by, when their young were first fledged they all visited us but after a few weeks the young ones were soon chased away by these very terratorial parent Birds.
 Below...... A very badly hit species, the Thrush has really declined in the past few years and are almost rare.Bird watchers put a lot of there decline down to Gardeners use of slug pellets etc which with Snails are the biggest part of their diet.
 Below.......A regular Winter visitor here in Devon are flocks of Redwings, these two's pictures were taken in a nearby neighbors garden. They are attracted to a wild part of his Grape vine which still retains fruit.
Below.......Here is a picture of the Redwing perched above the vine, Fruit just visible in the bottom left corner.
This will be an ongoing blog with eventually parts 1 - 2 etc to follow.

Joke of the day.
Todays is a very topical thing for the ladies at this time of year, (borrowed from Momma bears blog)
T'was the week after Christmas, and all through the house,
nothing would fit me, not even a blouse;
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I had to taste,
at the holiday parties had gone to my waist;

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber),
I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared,
The gravies and sauces and turkey nicely rared;

The wine and the rum balls; the bread and the cheese,
and the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt,
and prepared once again to do battle with dirt,
I said to myself, as only I can,
"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"

So, away with the last of the sour cream dip.
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished,
'til all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie... not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore,
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!
